NYC Urban Sketchers: Bold Lettering and Graphic Style with Danna Feintuch

Overview of this Workshop

How do we make our art work stand out? We will explore Contrast, Composition, and eye-catching Fonts in this workshop on using lettering and graphic style in creating art. Students will learn how to find their own unique lettering and add words to a location sketch to establish flow and unity throughout. Danna will share examples of fun ways to introduce lettering into the negative spaces of a piece. She will also teach how to think about contrast, and where it can be added to make a powerful image. You will leave having learned how to be free with your own fonts and a desire to utilize the entire page of your sketchbook.

About the instructor: Danna Feintuch is an artist living in Brooklyn, New York and has been a member of the Urban Sketchers for the past 8 years. She graduated with a BA in Animation from the University of Central Florida and has had work displayed in Grand Central, Rockefeller Plaza and more. Danna really enjoys traveling with her sketchbook and creating exciting designs from the new places she sees. Danna has been selected to demonstrate the concepts of this workshop at the International Symposium of Urban Sketching in Poznan, Poland in August, 2025. To see more of her work visit:
Suggested Supply List:

• Paper - Any sketchbook or paper that you like. Danna recommends something smooth like hot press paper and thick enough so your ink does not bleed through. Watercolor paper donated by Strathmore Paper will be provided.

• A pen you feel comfortable sketching with. Danna uses Uniball Fine tip pens.
• A marker of the same color as the pen ink to fill in bigger blocks of area. Danna tends to use black ink but you can use whatever color you would like.
• Any watercolors you have
• A stool
