Join us for an 8-week New York-Style Salsa Performance series!
• Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
• Runs from Jan. 6 - Feb. 26
• Led by Melissa & Galeno
Learn to dance New York-style Salsa! This style, also called "On 2," is known for its elegance, precision and connection to the music.
** MUST have Salsa dance experience to join this team **
We will be learning a short choreography to perform at the end of the series. Performance opportunities will include:
• First Friday Dance Party @ Candela on March 7
• Potentially more
You are not required to perform, but we ask that you let us know at the beginning of the series whether you would like to perform.
No partner needed to sign up! We will adjust the choreography based on who is participating (i.e. if there are many more followers than leaders, we may focus more on solo footwork than partnerwork).
The cost for the series is $100 for the series (all 8 weeks).

The On 2 style, also called "Mambo On 2," was pioneered in the 1960s by the great Eddie Torres in NYC, who often danced live at Tito Puente's performances. "On 2" refers to "breaking," or changing direction, on the second beat and the 6th beat (rather than on the 1st and 5th beats like the LA-style we usually teach). This emphasis on the "2" and "6" aligns with the Tumbao, the rhythm played on the Conga drum.
Personally, On 2 is my favorite style ~ it feels classy, and it feels like flying 🙂 And if you go out into the greater Latin dance world (conventions, festivals, etc.), knowing how to dance On 2 is ESSENTIAL! We are excited to finally bring some On 2 to the Rogue Valley, and we hope you join us.
