NWBS August General Meeting
Join us for this month’s general meeting. Come prepared with your favorite snack and beverage, and maybe bring some of the pieces that you have been working on for show and tell.
Class: Pearl Knotting with French Wire
Instructor: Renee Tatusko
Supplies:
One Strand of Round or Potato Pearls
Nylon Bead Chord with Needle Attached (2 Meters) - See note below
Sterling Silver or Gold-Filled French Wire (also called Gimp)
Size Fine (.6mm-.7mm) for standard freshwater pearls less than 7mm in size and delicate older, or heirloom pearls that have tiny drill holes.
Size Medium (.8mm) for most 7mm to 9mm pearls as it protects standard silk thread (like sizes 2-4)
Clasp of Choice
Fine-Tip Tweezers
Notes:
Choose your nylon thread so that your pearls do not easily slide along it. In general, the larger the pearl, the higher the number of threads you should use.
Choose six pearls and, using either a bead reamer or a drill, make the holes large enough that you can pull a piece of double thread easily through. You will use these pearls at each end. Tip: Use a big-eye needle to thread the unattached (non-needle) side of the chord and use this to test whether you can get it through the holes you are trying to enlarge.
Doors open at 10am
General Meeting starts at 11am
Meeting goes until 3:30pm or when we all decided to leave.
