This event is open to men and women and hosted by Mary Hoholski and Northwest Ohio River Runners. Important: This is not a beginner paddle. It involves significant open water exposure. Kayaks must be 12 feet or longer with two bulkheads. Must wear spray skirts.

Join us for a heartfelt paddle from Sandusky Bay to the Bay Point Sandbar in memory of Teressa Nemeth, a fellow paddler who lost her battle with ALS in May of 2024. While many of us didn’t have the chance to know Teressa personally, she was one of us—a paddler who found peace, joy, and connection on the water.
This memorial paddle is a tribute to her life and her love for paddling. As we make our way across the bay, we’ll honor the spirit of someone who shared our passion and whose memory continues to ripple through our community. At the sandbar, we’ll pause to reflect and raise a non-alcoholic toast to Teressa and all those we’ve loved and lost.
We'll paddle across Sandusky Bay to Bay Point for a sandbar picnic. If conditions allow, we may continue on to Johnson’s Island to admire the stunning waterfront homes.
Distance: ~4.5 to 5 miles one way to Bay Point, with an optional extension to Johnson’s Island. Round trip totals 12–14 miles, depending on route.

1️⃣ Safety first! A properly fitted PFD is required at all NWORR paddles.
2️⃣ Paddle status: We’ll post confirmation or cancellation by 4:00 pm on Tuesday.
3️⃣ Rain check: If we cancel due to weather, we’ll reschedule for Thursday at the same launch location.
4️⃣ Arrival time: Meet at the launch site by 6:00 pm—we aim to launch by 6:30 pm. Arrive earlier if you need extra time to unload or prep.
5️⃣ Paddle duration: Plan for roughly 2 hours on the water (may vary slightly based on conditions).
6️⃣ Lights required: For paddles that extend into low light, a solid white light visible 360° is mandatory. No need for expensive setups—simple lights on the bow and stern are fine.
7️⃣ Substance-free paddling: For the safety of all participants, alcohol and drug use are strictly prohibited before and during all NWORR events.
