About this Event
Welcome back to NUX Sheffield! This event will be hosted at Sheffield Hallam University and food will be provided by NUX on Thursday14th May 2026. Once you enter the Charles Street building head for the lifts and floor #4 and look for NUX volunteers.
Virtual Reality is no longer futuristic - it’s clinical, usable, and life changing.
This talk explores three real-world VR case studies in prosthetic training and upper & lower limb rehabilitation. You’ll see how user centred design, co design with clinicians and patients, and rigorous user testing amd clinical trials turn XR into scalable healthcare tools.
The session ends with a hands on XR experience and workshop, so you can try the tech yourself!

Info: Alicia Carrión Plaza is a digital health and Human–Computer Interaction researcher specialising in Virtual Reality for healthcare. She is a Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University’s Impact VR Lab, where she develops and evaluates VR applications for physical rehabilitation, prosthetic training, and pain and anxiety management. Her work is conducted in close collaboration with NHS partners and supported by NIHR and MRC funding, with a strong focus on usability, accessibility, co design, and real world clinical adoption.
