After his first two church positions in Arnstadt and Mühlhausen, Bach returned to Weimar as court organist in 1708. With his promotion to Konzertmeister in 1714, Bach was afforded the opportunity to compose one church cantata per month. Working with a large contingent of professional musicians, Bach wrote a number of sumptuous cantatas, including "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland" (BWV 61) and "Wachet, betet, seid bereit allezeit!" (BWV 70a). Although the latter cantata was partially lost, Bach fortunately reworked it in Leipzig into "Wachet! betet! betet! wachet!" (BWV 70), which of course survives for posterity. We ask for a donation at each session of $20 per person to cover a stipend for the music director and other expenses. But any amount is welcome, and no one is turned away.
