NuCoustixDave Ziler grew up in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and now resides in Perkasie, PA. He started playing the guitar at an early age and became proficient on the mandolin in the 1980s. Dave is also a bluegrass songwriter and has many compositions recorded by several regionally successful Bluegrass bands.
Guy Leatherman started playing the guitar in the 1980s and, in addition to Bluegrass, is an avid fan of Jazz, Blues, and Classic Rock. He is proficient on bass and guitar, and sings lead and harmony vocals. Guy was first exposed to Bluegrass music at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the early 1990s and began playing bass shortly thereafter. His repertoire is heavily influenced by the Stanley Brothers and Flatt & Scruggs.
Ed Lick was first exposed to Bluegrass in 1973 as a young teenager and is a multi-instrumentalist that started playing in Philadelphia area bands in 1974. Ed’s approach to the mandolin incorporates elements of many of the great players, especially David Grisman (aka DAWG), yet he remains firmly rooted with the bluegrass style and has an individuality all his own. In addition to the mandolin, Ed is proficient on banjo & pedal steel guitar. He sings lead as well as the tenor and baritone harmony parts.
The Jazzgrass Chamber Orchestra
In early 2025, Alfred Poor was struck by a curious idea: What would Weather Report’s “Birdland” sound like if played on traditional bluegrass acoustic instruments? The question wouldn’t leave him alone, so he found six other local musicians who were willing to attempt it. They were so pleased with the result that they decided to work up a variety of jazz and swing tunes. And the Jazzgrass Chamber Orchestra was born!
From Louis Armstrong to Django Reinhart, from Miles Davis to Dave Brubeck, from Hank Williams to Stevie Wonder, this fearless band is ready to tackle tunes old and new, all played on two mandolins, a mandola, a guitar, a fiddle, and a bass. And you might even hear some new twists on some familiar songs!
Band members include Alfred Poor, Mike Fox, Karl Fehrenbach, Steve Master, Jeff Kurdyla, Marty Kardon and Alan Dorfman.
