The emergency preparedness in community (EPiC) workshop will provide hands-on training aimed at boosting people’s practical emergency preparedness skills. Facilitated by NSW SES Port Macquarie-Hastings Unit members, participants will learn a range of skills including how to safely use a ladder, cleaning gutters, conducting temporary window repairs, sandbagging, use of fire extinguishers, elements of first aid and a session on using the Bureau of Meteorology website and Hazards Near Me app to source emergency warnings and information.
The EPiC workshop will be a feature of the Unit’s Open Day that will also incorporate a tour of the NSW SES Port Macquarie-Hastings headquarters and opportunities for people to see the extensive array of vehicles, boats, tools and communication equipment used by SES volunteers in responding to emergency requests for flood and storm assistance and in undertaking the Unit’s general land rescue responsibilities.
The Open Day will include a free BBQ for community members and will also feature activities for children and a road crash rescue demonstration.
