About this Event
Basic Instructor Training
(BIT)
Day 1:
Friday, December 20th
7:30am - 2:30pm
(6 hours)
This BIT course is a PRE-REQUISTE in becoming in NRA Basic Pistol Instructor.
If you ALREADY COMPLETED the BIT course in the last 2 years, you do not have to come to this class (MUST HAVE PROOF of BIT COMPLETION)
At the end of this course you will posses the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to Organize & Conduct NRA Basic Firearms Training Courses.

Day 3:
Sunday, Decemebr 22nd

Course Lessons:
Lesson I:
Basics of Pistol Shooting Instructional Methods
Lesson II:
Teaching Basics of Pistol Shooting:
Pistol Knowledge & Safe Gun Handling
- teach parts & operations of revolvers & semi-automatic pistols according to NRA lesson plans
- teach the NRA fundamental rules of safe-gun handling
- conduct a safe pistol handling exercise
•Group 1: Will conduct a brief presentation on Slide 7: Gun Owner’s Responsibilities, Slides 8-9: introduce lesson (REVIEW the learning objectives),
•Group 2: Will conduct a brief presentation on Slide 10: Why American’s Own Pistols, and Slide 11: Types of pistol actions.
•Group 3: Will explain Slides 13-19: Revolver knowledge and Demonstrate how they operate Slide 13.
•
•All Groups: Will explain Slides 20-24: Semi-automatic Pistol Knowledge, and demonstrate how they function Slide 26.
•
•Group 1: Will explain Slides 30-31 Safe Gun handling.
•Group 2: Will conduct Slide 32 Safe Pistol Handling Practical.
Lesson III:
Teaching Pistol Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge & the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
•teach ammunition components, types, and the firing sequence of a cartridge according to NRA lesson plans.
•Effectively teach ammunition identification, storage, and malfunctions according to NRA lesson plans.
•Explain the importance of determining eye dominance in beginning pistol shooters, and conduct an eye dominance exercise.
•Effectively teach the five fundamentals of pistol shooting according to NRA lesson plans.
•Group 1: Explain Slides 37 – 45 Pistol Ammunition
•Group 2: Explain Slides 46 – 49 Cartridge Malfunctions and Slide 50 REVIEW Safe Gun Handling Rules.
•Group 3: Demonstrate Slide 51 Dominant Eye and conduct a Dominant Eye Drill and Slides 63 – 77 Fundamentals of Pistol shooting.
•All Candidates: will need to demonstrate with a partner that they can conduct Slides 52 – 54 (position) and Slides 55 – 62 (Grip).

Evaluating & Improving Performance of Beginning Pistol Shooters

Shooting Positions & Shooting Qualifications
•Effectively teach the learning steps to shoot from the benchrest position.
•Effectively teach the learning steps to shoot from the isosceles position.
•Effectively conduct the shooting qualification.
•Training Counselor : The Training Counselor will assume the role as an instructor, and facilitate Slides 83 - 90, Range Safety Briefing
•All Candidates: Must teach Slides 93 – 95 & 96, the benchrest and two handed standing isosceles position, to another candidate, using the 8 step method.
•All Candidates: Slide 96 – 98: Conduct the Shooting Qualification for another candidate.

Scoring Targets, & Selecting & Maintaining a Pistol
Each candidate will conduct exercises as follows:
•Group 1: Scoring targets, Slide 105
•Group 2: Selecting and purchasing a pistol, Slides 106 - 108
•Group 3: Explain and demonstrate how to Care for a pistol, Slides 109 – 121.

Each candidate will conduct exercises as follows:
•Group 1: The Marksmanship Qualification Program, Slide 128
•
•Group 2: Training, Competitive shooting opportunities, and NRA-affiliated clubs, Slides 129 – 133.

•Group 3: The National Rifle Association, Slides 133 – 134.

I have Over 30 years of experience in the criminal justice field. I'm a former Staff Sargent, U.S Marine (Infantry and Embassy Duty) and Police Officer!
I ran a Criminal Justice Program for a private college and helped hundreds of individuals to get into Law Enforcement, Security, Corrections, and other public safety careers.
I was a former police officer and have real world street experience. I loved going out on patrol every day, making arrest, doing vehicle stops, investigations, drug testing, and perfecting my officer safety tactics and techniques.
