Topic: Big Ideas! Meet Ruthie Partin, an artist who makes larger-than-life sculptures
Ever wonder how art can lead to something bigger, something unexpected? Join us as Ruthie Partin, sculptor, tattoo artist and owner of Avant Garde Tattoo, shares her story of how a pivotal moment connected her to a bigger art community.
When asked about her preferred medium to make her sculptures she enthusiastically says, “gosh, anything I can find!” She uses everything from wood, fiberglass and resin to polystyrene, enamel and metal to create large scale and “normal size” sculptures. Ruthie will discuss the variety of materials and tools she uses to create her art.
When not metalsmithing her latest sculpture or running her successful tattoo business in Gainesville, she is pursuing her Master of Arts Management degree at the University of Oklahoma.
If you’ve ever been curious about the fabrication process or have wanted to dabble in sculpture making but don’t know where to begin – you’ll gain valuable information from this art talk. Plus, Ruthie will share insight into arts management and her goals for the future. Her journey will inspire you and may also help you on your own artistic path.
