November Group Hike: Buffalo Creek Greenway in Smithfield

🥾 Join the Friends of Johnston County Parks for a group hike on Buffalo Creek Greenway in Smithfield!

Connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts for a scenic, approximately 3-mile out-and-back hike along Buffalo Creek Greenway! This beautiful trail connects neighborhoods, parks, and downtown Smithfield, offering a great opportunity to explore the role greenways play in making our towns more connected, accessible, and enjoyable.
Our planned route: The group will meet at Bob Wallace Jaycee Kiddie Park, where the trail begins, and walk to the point where the greenway passes under Buffalo Road before turning around and returning to the starting point.
Along the way, participants will have the opportunity to meet others in the community who love the outdoors and discuss the importance of greenways in and around downtowns and other commercial hubs. These trails do more than provide places to walk, jog, and bike — they connect people to local businesses, parks, neighborhoods, and one another.
🌳 Part of the 2026 JoCo Fall Hiking Challenge!
This hike is one of nine featured trails in the JoCo Fall Hiking Challenge, hosted by Friends of Johnston County Parks. The challenge runs October 1 through December 31, 2026, and encourages residents to get outside, explore local trails, and enjoy the beauty of fall in Johnston County. Participants who complete hikes and submit the online form will have a chance to win door prizes!
