Saturday 16th November is the date of our first concert at a new venue - Teesside High School. Late nights in November don’t hold much appeal, so the concert starts at 4pm. It’s one not to be missed! Two short, beautiful Brahms songs, sung in English, open the concert. Then comes something really special - James Whitbourn’s Son of God Mass. Accompanied by piano, it lasts twenty minutes, and features an amazing clarinet solo part, played by the superb Matthew Politz. The choir sings words of the Latin mass (translated in the programme), set in gentle harmony, while the clarinet soars above, giving an eastern, jazzy quality. We hear that audiences love it!
Following your interval coffee, settle down for the Brahms Requiem, sung in English. Despite the title, the piece is not sad, but full of comfort. The soprano soloist is Anna Dias, originally from Yarm. As a child, she starred in John Forsyth’s opera A Kingfisher’s Tale, and she is now a professional singer. Sam Hird, the baritone soloist, impressed us at a Samling masterclass last December, with his masterful voice and beautiful tone.
The accompaniment will be by Andrew Christer and Alison Gill – four skilled hands on the school’s good grand piano. John Forsyth MBE will conduct the choir - now 90-strong.
Tickets are £15 for adults and £5 for children and students (£1 booking fee). Click here to book, or buy via a choir member. Some tickets may be available at the door (cash or card). We think you’ll enjoy the comfortable balcony seats and the excellent facilities at the school. There will be assistance with parking.
Programmes (£2 cash) with full details about the pieces (including translations) and performers will be on sale.
