Alliance for the Arts will present three new exhibitions November 6–28, exploring the unexpected through surreal and unconventional artwork, an immersive installation celebrating the natural world, and figure drawings honoring the human form.
The Main Gallery will feature That’s Absurd., a group exhibition exploring the space between meaning and meaninglessness through art that blends humor with seriousness and the familiar with the unexpected. Featuring surreal imagery, exaggerated forms, disrupted realities and playful gestures, the works challenge conventional ways of seeing and invite viewers to question assumptions. By embracing the illogical, the exhibition creates room for discomfort and delight to coexist, celebrating unconventional thinking and the freedom to reinterpret the world.
In the Foulds Theatre Gallery, Night Swim by Zan Lombardo invites viewers into a contemplative exploration of light, nature and the paths that guide us forward. Inspired by the imagined experience of standing on a dock at night and watching fish move toward underwater lights, Lombardo’s installation reflects both the wild beauty of the natural world and the challenges of witnessing its mistreatment. Continuous painted scrolls divide the winding installation into sections, encouraging visitors to pause, look closely and reconnect with the beauty surrounding them. The work offers a reminder to move through life with curiosity, trust and a renewed appreciation for the natural world.
The Member Gallery will feature Nude Works, showcasing figure studies by students of Instructed Life Drawing and Life Drawing Lounge. Rooted in direct observation of the human form, the works demonstrate a range of approaches to gesture, structure, form and personal expression. Led by artist Francesco Gillia, Instructed Life Drawing encourages participants to look beyond simple representation, while Life Drawing Lounge, facilitated by artist Juli Bobman, provides a relaxed, open studio for practicing skills through extended poses and individual exploration. Together, the works celebrate life drawing as both a foundational artistic practice and a means of creative discovery.
The exhibitions also connect with Nude Nocturne, the Alliance’s immersive celebration of the human form taking place Saturday, November 7. Inspired by the event’s theme, “A Celebration of the Human Form, With a Side of Absurdity,” That’s Absurd. embraces the playful, unconventional and unexpected, while Nude Works explores the human form through figure drawing and direct observation. Together, the exhibitions complement an evening of live art, body painting, aerialists, burlesque performances, live figure drawing and music, celebrating creativity and artistic expression with a side of absurdity.
The November exhibitions will be on view November 6–28 at Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers. The opening reception on November 6 runs from 5–7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. For more information about the exhibitions and upcoming events, visit ArtInLee.org or call 239-939-2787.
