About this Event

Join Lucy Brouwer, the creator of Watson Fothergill Walk and Nottingham's Art Deco Pubs, for a look into the history of Berni Inns in Nottingham. A mainstay of 1960s and 1970s socialising, the Berni Inn made dining out accessible to ordinary folks.

Nottingham and the surrounding area had up to nine branches of the restaurant chain, including The Sawyers Arms, The Chateau, The Flying Horse Hotel, The Hutt, and The New Welbeck. Some were purpose-built, while others were based in buildings that already had a long history. In this illustrated talk, Lucy will investigate the popularity of Berni Inns in Nottingham and explore the stories behind the buildings that played host to countless nights out.

Discover the history of some of Nottingham's lost buildings, learn how Berni democratised eating out and share your memories of nights on the town in the 1960s and 1970s.

This is an illustrated talk with a duration of approximately 1 hour.

Start: 7pm prompt. There will be a short interval. Please arrive in good time to take your seats in the Goldings Room. The Vat & Fiddle will be open until 9 pm.
