About this Event
Notes to the nacre
Brighton Art Space
1st March 1-3pm
A creative healing workshop where participants will be writing letters, notes or prose to the sea. The purpose is to share worries and difficult life experiences which may incur shame, regret or fear if divulged in the real world. The aim is to release and let go via these notes which, once written, will be enclosed between two oyster shells then bound and released into the sea (or kept as wished).
Oysters are symbolic of love, transformation and protection. Their nacre prized for the formation of pearls from a grain of sand, an incredible metamorphosis.
Letter writing enhances the ability to process emotions, it allows self compassion and self expression. The sea is known for it’s healing abilities through mental connection, solace and physical wellbeing. Also as a metaphor for addressing deep emotions and spiritual awareness. We will be using ultramarine blue as a colour to engage expansiveness and freedom.
In this 2 hour workshop the artist will share her own journey of mental health recovery using letter writing and gently guide attendees through this process. There will be the chance to paint oyster shells (provided by the artist) using acrylics and pure pigment and binding materials will also be available. The workshop will take place in the first floor gallery at Brighton Art Space with refreshments included.
Accessability is limited due to stairs, there are toilets in the building.
8 spaces maximum per day.
