DJ Bio - Abiyah
-------------------------
Cincinnati-based DJ Abiyah has been spinning strictly vinyl on her Technics 1200s decks for the last 13 years, primarily in the dancehall reggae genre as a founding member of Queen City
Imperial Soundsystem, Cincinnati’s only all-vinyl/all-female reggae selecta crew (with co-DJ DJ Spam). She has also spun at special events/limited series, including the 2022 Blink Cincinnati (the nation’s largest public light and art event), the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament, laid-back cocktail hours playing ‘80s to ‘00s R&B/Soul, as well as MusicNight at the preschool at UC’s Arlitt Child Development Center, spinning a mishmash of family-friendly genres.
For the last 20+ years, Abiyah has functioned primarily as a multi-genre vocalist and songwriter in, and active member of, Cincinnati’s esteemed music scene. Her genre-bending sound is based upon a highly workable concoction: she fuses her punk ethos with her love of
new wave and post-punk, trip hop, alternative hip hop, dancehall reggae, indie rock, floetry, and experimental noise with the fierceness of a free wild muse. Abiyah has been recognized with several CityBeat Cincinnati Entertainment Awards nominations, performed at multiple
MidPoint Music Festival and Fountain Square events and out-of-town venues, and finally released her first full-length album, ‘Strangers Love Me’, in December 2023 on both digital and vinyl.
