This four-part workshop series offers emerging poets in Leeds the chance to develop their craft and expertise, and learn how to find new progression opportunities.
It will be led by acclaimed poet and previous Northern Writers' Award winner Shash Trevett, whose debut collection The Naming of Names was published in 2024.
Participants should already be writing poetry, and may have published in anthologies or magazines, but should not yet have published a full collection.
Shash Trevett is a poet, critic and translator of Tamil poetry into English. Born in Sri Lanka, she now lives in the UK. The Naming of Names, her first full collection, was published by Smith|Doorstop in September 2024. Out of Sri Lanka: Tamil, Sinhala and English Poetry from Sri Lanka and its Diasporas (Bloodaxe 2023, Penguin India 2023), co-edited with Vidyan Ravinthiran and Seni Seneviratne, was a Poetry Book Society Special Recommendation and one of the Times Literary Supplement’s Books of the Year for 2023. Shash is an experienced workshop leader, and has mentored for New Writing North and the National Centre for Writing. She is a member of the Kinara poetry collective, a Ledbury Critic and a Board Member of Modern Poetry in Translation.
