Set for Saturday April 12th from high-noon (1230pm) to sundown (5pm), out in the Wild West of Kyogle, the Memorial (KMI) Hall will host The Northern Rivers Zine Fair. Showcasing a wagon-load of indie publishing, zines, comics, prints, offbeat art, and more from both local Northern Rivers and interstate artists – it’s a real hoedown of handmade books and underground literature! Expect a barn-burner of an event with workshops on site, a Mexican food truck, live music, a DJ, and a chance to swap yarns with the best darn zinesters the west side of Byron Bay!
“We’re roping a mighty fine posse of zinesters: the punks of the publishing world — raw, unfiltered, and full of stories as wild as the west: the Final Frontier,” says head wrangler, Benjo Kazue. “Whether people come to sell, trade, buy, or just soak up the vibe you’ll find an enthusiastic artistic community that’ll welcome you with open arms."
Featuring a shootout of big-shot sheriffs in the zine community including, dedicated Zine Store and international DIY institution Sticky Institute from Melbourne, Radical Graffiti and All of My Mistakes from Sydney, and zinesters from Wollongong, Brisbane and in between all set to join local Northern Rivers artists showcase and strut their stuff in the west.
And that ain’t all, ya varmits! Dust off your boots, put on your ten-gallon hat and throw on your chaps cause The Northern Rivers Zine Fair is also playing host to some of the finest bands to represent The West (of Byron). Masochist and Dahlia are performing their live punk rock and roll, and if that ain’t enough to get you shaking ya tawny hide and thumping the heel outta your spurs, DJ Mr. DC from Champion Sound will be spinning wax for a vinyl set of ambient reggae and dub.
So mosey on down and join in on the fun. There’ll be plenty of food and drink, live music, and good ol’ fashioned camaraderie and community spirit to keep ya goin’.
Best part is, it ain’t gonna cost you no silver dollar – It’s totally free! Supported and funded by Arts Northern Rivers and Create NSW via CASP Grant, and Kyogle Council Youth Week funding.
