Join us on our overnight beer-venture to the beautiful North Shore this spring to embark on a weekend chalked full of delicious craft beer fun. From behind the scenes tours at iconic breweries, sipping unlimited tastings of a wide selection of craft beers, delicious hearty meals, strolling around Canal Park, relaxing in your Lakeview suite, and drinking in the vibrant nightlife… this beer-lovers weekend getaway has something for everyone! Not only will you find fun and entertainment, but GetKnit will plan all the details of your weekend “up north” so you can truly relax and enjoy this one-of-a-kind overnight experience.
Our weekend will begin bright and early on Saturday morning as we gather at St. Paul’s Union Depot where your local GetKnit Gurus will excitedly awaiting your arrival with donuts from A Bakers Wife and hot coffee – to start our day off right. We’ll be able to store your luggage safely below and then board our luxury coach bus that will whisk us away for our journey north to explore the breweries along the North Shore! Once we’re on our way north, we’ll enjoy a savory hand pie of our choosing from The Buttered Tin! At time of registration, you’ll be able to choose between their Ham and Pimento Cheese; Brie Cheese, Caramelized onion and Potato; or the Chorizo sausage, Cheese and Potato.
Upon arriving in Duluth, we will make our first stop at Bent Paddle Brewing Company – a fast-growing, state of the art brewery in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth. Here they will open their doors just for us and welcome us into their production space for our first tastings of the day and an optional behind-the-scenes tour. We will then head to their new taproom just down the block and continue our tastings, as we are set free to explore their array of pilot batch beers along with their signature flavors.
From there, we’ll travel to Canal Park Brewing Company, where we will fill up with several more tastings and a hearty beer-inspired lunch. At time of registration you’ll be able to choose between their Bacon Cheese Burger: ground chuck patty, topped with cheddar cheese and bacon served on a brioche bun; Fish and Chips: craft beer-battered seasonal fish served with fries, house coleslaw and tartar sauce; Brew Company Cobb: seasonal greens, grilled chicken, bacon, hard-boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, red onion and cucumber served with dijon vinaigrette; Portabella Fresca: marinated and grilled portabella mushroom served with baby spinach, tomato, red onion, roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella cheese, and basil pesto served on focaccia; Sweet & Spicy Chicken Wrap: crispy chicken tossed in sweet and spicy sauce and wrapped in a herbed tortilla with lettuce, tomato, pickled red onion and jalapeno bacon cream cheese.
After re-fueling, Blacklist Brewing Company will welcome us with another round of tastings to be complemented by an optional tour of their brew house. From there, we will head to one of Duluth’s newest brewpubs, Lake Superior Brewing. This new local favorite opened in the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth, reinventing its namesake, which was one of the Twin Ports originally breweries. Here we’ll enjoy another round of tastings and get to enjoy a mid afternoon snack from their in-house kitchen. Next, our crew will head to “Duluth’s Original Brewpub”, Fitger’s Brewhouse. Here we’ll enjoy some tastings in their beautiful Barrel Room which is located in the iconic Fitger’s complex.
After visiting five breweries, we’ll reload our trusty transport and travel to our accommodations for the evening at The Inn on Lake Superior located along the pristine shores of Lake Superior and in the heart of Canal Park. Upon arrival, we’ll have roughly two hours of free time to clean up, relax, and enjoy the our accommodations at this beautiful property.
After working up our appetites with a full day of beer drinking, we’ll come back together and take a short jaunt from the hotel to the nearby Hoops Brewing. This new Duluth staple is “brewer owned, brewer driven” which is clear in their impressive swath of beers. Here, we will enjoy our final round of tastings with a BBQ-inspired dinner catered by local favorite, OMC Smokehouse. Featuring a mix of pulled chicken, slow roasted pulled pork and house smoked brisket with house-made BBQ sauce alongside their bacon and blue cheese potato salad, and scrumptious Mac and cheese – this meal is sure to end our day on a flavorful note.
After dinner, the night is yours to do with what you will! Explore Canal Park by checking out the Aerial Lift Bridge, take a beer-break and taste some local spirits at Vikre Distillery or enjoy one of the many local watering holes. Your GetKnit Gurus are happy to make suggestions and join in your evening excursions!
If a night on the town sounds too exhausting, you can enjoy one of the amenities offered by The Inn. Take a dip in their rooftop heated pool or kick back in your lakeside room to get some early shut eye. There’s no wrong way to enjoy an evening in Canal Park, but however you choose to enjoy it and whenever you decide to call it a night, your conveniently close hotel room and comfy bed are sure to be the icing on the cake.
Whether you’re an early-riser or have turned sleeping-in into an art form, breakfast will be waiting in the hotel lobby upon waking. Once you fill up your belly, the morning is yours. Explore the shops, coffee houses, and sights in Canal Park or enjoy the back of your eyelids with a relaxing nap in the carefree environment of your hotel room.
We will re-group at approximately 10:15 AM for day two of our beer-venture. Coffee in hand, we will board our bus and head north up the shore to Two Harbors, MN. Home of the new site of Castle Danger Brewery , a one-of-a-kind brewery who makes their mark on the local brewery scene by serving up “dangerously” good ales. Here they will open up early just for our group and give us an exclusive look at their taproom. Next we will head back south and cross over the bridge to Superior, WI for our final two stops on our getaway. First up, we’ll visit Thirsty Pagan Brewing which has been “serving awesome pizza and really awesome beer for the past 10+ years.” Here we’ll get to enjoy both their specialties, as we indulge in a hearty pizza and salad buffet for lunch paired with an array of beer tastings. After we’ve refueled, we will head to the Superior, WI newest brewery to be added to the growing beer scene in the northland, Earth Rider Brewery. This growing brewery is comprised of a team of decorated brewers and brewing-industry professionals. Here we’ll enjoy our final round of tastings and get insights into the historic brewing scene from their accredited group of brewery staff.
Between the thirst quenching beer tastings from the nine North Shore breweries and the mouth-watering meals from some of Duluth’s finest eateries, you will have countless opportunities to purchase pints, growlers, and souvenirs to help remind you of this day that is sure to leave you feeling good and “hoppy.”
