Join ACC leaders Ben Clark and Joe Dzurik on this highly anticipated heli-access trip to the Frenchman's Cap area north of Revelstoke!Access to the North Monashees can be some heinous bushwhacking especially in the height of summer so we've opted to skip it altogether, and aim for higher objectives over August long weekend, including options such as Frenchman's Cap, Hat Peak, Cat Peak, Mt. Levers, and/or Schrund peak. Objectives will be based on participant interest and ability level, and will be subject to weather and terrain conditions.
This is our second annual heli-access mountaineering camp lead by Ben Clark; in 2023 we headed up to the North Selkirks to explore Carnes and Phogg Peaks. Our goal with these Heli-access trips is to explore less accessible areas we've been looking at from town for years, while climbing with friends, and maybe even bagging a couple of FA's!
This camp is open to all ability levels, and while there are some big objectives available we will cater to different skills and goals with options to either scramble, or alpine climb or both! Participants will provide their own food, tents, climbing gear. This is not a guided trip but participants can expect to build skills with the aid of trip leaders and fellow participants.
The Nitty Gritty:
- We will fly from Glacier helicopters west of town, and will also use a staging area near Carnes creek North of town. Participants should be comfortable in a helicopter and willing to drive and/or carpool north of town
- We will be backcountry camping. Participants should be able to be self sufficient in a backcountry camping setting.
- We aim to travel as a couple of groups offering different levels of difficulty/objective; regardless, participants should be capable of and willing to travel long distances on variable ground with significant vertical gain.
- Prior mountaineering and glacier travel experience is not required, but we expect beginner participants to be ready and willing to learn.
Cost:
- The deposit for this trip will be $700 ($650 helicopter deposit plus the $50 club fee according to the ACC CMS fee structure of $10/day). The deposit should be paid upon participant selection. We do our best to estimate the Helicopter fee but do to the uncertain nature of flying there may be an extracost.
- Expect a post trip invoice for $20-$100 depending on the final flight bill.
We will also need to drive north to Carnes Creek for a staging area. We will carpool to minimize costs, but expect to pay approximately $20 in gas.
- If our helicopter flight is cancelled (very possible if the heli is reallocated to fire-fighting), we will offer participants a foot-powered trip to the Frigg Cirque south of town as a backup plan, only if at least 4 participants are keen on this backup plan (otherwise the trip will be cancelled; participants will be refunded their $650 heli deposit regardless).
Participants will be randomly drawn from a lottery. Couples are welcome to apply as a unit, but only one entry will be allowed. Applications are open from June 18 - June 28. Please fill out the Google Form here: https://forms.gle/TspGWLFyHmisjKaL7
