LATE NIGHT HORROR DOUBLE FEATURE: GRANDMA + KILLER!
Tickets available ONLY online - https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/astronomicstudios/doublefeature
Independent filmmaker and Astronomic Studios owner Bobby Canipe Jr. presents a late-night double feature of two North Carolina-made independent horror films: Grandma and Killer!
Grandma is Bobby Canipe Jr.'s shot-on-video horror feature, filmed in Catsquare, North Carolina. Made with practical effects and a deliberately low-budget approach, the film embraces the DIY spirit of independent horror. Grandma was described by Horror Society as a “modern DIY triumph.”
Killer! is Tony Elwood's 1989 Super 8 regional horror film, made in Gastonia, North Carolina. The film received four stars from Joe Bob Briggs, the legendary horror host and film critic, and was named by him as one of his top ten no-budget films of the year.
This is not meant to be a quiet, sit-in-the-dark screening. Both films will be presented as a rowdy, crowd-participation late-night horror double feature. Laugh, yell, cheer, boo, talk back to the screen, react to the craziness and have a good time with the people around you. The goal is to create the kind of loud, unpredictable, communal atmosphere that makes late-night horror screenings so much fun.
A camera will also be set up to record the audience during the screening, so have fun and show it! Portions of the audience footage may be used in future event marketing to show the kind of screening atmosphere being cultivated.
The night will also feature a Q&A with members of the Grandma cast and crew, along with a meet & greet, photos, merch, free giveaways and more.
This is the beginning of an experiment in bringing more late-night independent horror screenings to the area. If this event is successful, Bobby plans to pursue monthly late-night horror double features featuring a rotating selection of obscure independent films from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and today, along with indie premieres, special screenings, filmmaker appearances and other events.
There are a lot of directions this could go, but it starts with building an audience for this kind of cinema. If you've ever wanted late-night horror double features in this area, come out and support it.
