This season marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of Forest Philharmonic Orchestra and as part of our celebrations we are organising a number of exciting projects. One key new initiative is the 'North and East London Young Music of the Year' competition for upcoming young and highly talented musicians. We feel strongly that, with the creative and performing arts under such threat in schools and beyond, it is vital that as an established high-quality orchestra we give the young musicians of the future opportunities to develop their talents and passion. We are working in collaboration with the North London Festival to put on this competition in which the three finalists, Joseph Reynolds, Mee-Hyun Esther Park and Yixuan Kassia Ren will each perform a movement from a concerto with the orchestra in a dedicated concert at 5pm on Sunday 29 September in St Gabriel's Church, Aldersbrook Road, Wanstead. The panel of judges, informed by audience and orchestra voting will select the winner who will then go on to play an entire concerto with the orchestra in our December concert at the Sir James Hawkey Hall. The runners up will be given other playing opportunities with us too. This is an amazing and extremely rare opportunity for these young musicians. For the competition final in September we are offering all pre-school and primary aged children free tickets when attending with a paying adult and a single price of ยฃ10 per ticket for all others. We hope therefore to make the concert accessible to children and their families who would not usually be able to attend such an event. Tickets can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or calling 07950 108980.
