9:00-10:00 AM YOUNG BEGINNERS: This session is designed for students entering 3rd Grade in the fall who learned violin in 2nd or 3rd Grade, or any NEW-to-strings beginner students entering 3rd-5th Grade. Brave and eager younger students are welcome to TRY this adventure too! This camp will help beginners learn the basics of string playing: posture, bow control, and making a beautiful tone on the violin, viola, or cello. We’ll learn or review some beginner tunes from 2nd Grade and introduce the 3rd Grade Strings repertoire. We’ll also play some fun fiddle tunes to show off in our performances!
10:15-11:30 AM ELEMENTARY FIDDLERS: This session is designed for students entering 4th, 5th, or 6th Grade in the fall with at least 1 year of instruction on violin, viola, cello, or bass. We will focus on growing your music reading skills and sharpening your playing technique to help you play with a beautiful, big tone. We’ll play familiar songs, learn new songs (including some fiddle tunes) and get tuned up for another year of growing as musicians in Orchestra!!
11:45 AM-1:00 PM Advanced Young Fiddlers: This session is designed for students entering 5th or 6th Grade in the fall with at least 2 years of instruction on violin, viola, cello, or bass.) This camp is for young, but experienced musicians: strong music readers that have demonstrated independent learning, and good practice habits. This camp will challenge musicians to read quicker, more accurately, and more confidently. Students will get to play fun music with other motivated players while sharpening their playing technique to play with a beautiful, big tone. This camp will help prepare young musicians to be strong leaders in Fifth Grade Orchestra or their first year of Middle School Orchestra!

*If your child is interested in possibly joining a different level class too, they are welcome to stay for more (or just try two on Tuesday, and decide which class(es) best fit(s) their skill level!)

INSTRUMENTS: If your child is eager to have their own instrument to practice at home, I highly recommend RENTING vs. BUYING (for lots of reasons!) Norse 3rd graders will have the opportunity to rent an instrument from Meyer Music this fall! You can go to their website and click "ONLINE RENTALS." This fall, Meyer Music will deliver pre-ordered instrument to school, so they are ready when we begin Strings Classes!
We will have a rental night, Tuesday, Sep. 15 for 3rd graders and all new students needing instruments. You CAN drive to Meyer Music in Holland or Grand Rapids to get an instrument now, but it works well to pre-order online and wait until the fall to rent an instrument (and just borrow one for fiddle camp). If you are considering getting an instrument, PLEASE ask for Mrs. Corbin's recommendations!
If your child needs to borrow an instrument just for Fiddle Camp, we'll have school violins available for them to play during Fiddle Camp and our "Fiddle Week" performances! Feel free to email to confirm if your child needs to borrow an instrument!
Fiddle Songbooks will be distributed on the first day of camp and our new Fiddlers T-shirts will be delivered on the 2nd or 3rd of camp.

"Fiddle Week" Performance Events:
THURSDAY (8/6) NORTHSIDE PARADE on Ruddiman (meet at 6:15 precise location TBD-- WEAR NEW FIDDLE SHIRT!)
FRIDAY (8/7) Northside Summer Spectacular Evening Performance in Walker Park (meet between 5:30 and 5:45 at Elementary Gym entrance in Walker Park-- WEAR NEW FIDDLE SHIRT!)
$45 FEE
If you have not paid the $45 Fiddle Camp fee yet, you can bring cash or check on the first day of camp or pay that online through the school Revtrak online payment link!
Be sure to tell your friends and neighbors that it's not too late to sign up!
Looking forward to seeing all our fiddlers soon!
Feel free to email Mrs. Corbin with any questions. [email protected]
Thank you for supporting your child's music education!
