About this Event
We're bringing one of New Orleans' most distinctive pianists to Alexandria for an evening unlike anything you've experienced.
Tom McDermott has spent four decades at the center of New Orleans piano tradition, playing Carnegie Hall with the Dukes of Dixieland, appearing on HBO's Treme, and recording 17 albums praised by the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and the Wall Street Journal. His music moves effortlessly between ragtime, traditional jazz, R&B, and Brazilian choro, a form often called "Brazilian ragtime" that he weaves into a rich, cross-Atlantic sound.
This is a special Rivana production, designed to go deeper than a concert. The evening unfolds in three acts:
First, Tom accompanies a 20-minute Buster Keaton silent film, live at the grand piano. Then, a concert. Finally, an intimate jazz-festival-style conversation with Minnesota-based author Michael Tisserand, a longtime friend of McDermott's and a founding member of the Mardi Gras parading group Laissez Boys Social Aide and Leisure Club.
Space is intentionally limited. This is the kind of evening Rivana was made for.
Doors open at 6:40 pm.
Show begins at 7:00 pm.
General admission seating. Rivana Members hold reserved seats.
