“Noise Is Serious Sh*t” (2023, 62 min) byHilman Fathoni focuses on independent electronic music from Indonesia. Yogyakarta is regarded as an important centre for classical Javanese fine arts and culture such as literature, visual arts and music. The city is known as a laboratory for Indonesian musicians to explore their boundaries. More and more artists produce “Noise music” to challenge the distinction that is made in conventional musical practices between musical and non-musical sound.
