Internationally renowned concert pianist and professor Katya Lebedeva talks with Beth Steel, award winning playwright and screenwriter about music, life, love and literature, accompanied by City Lit advanced piano students playing music inspired by night.
Programme to include works by Debussy, Chopin, Borodin and Scriabin
Beth Steel is an award winning playwright and screenwriter.
, her critically acclaimed second play, won her the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright, and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. was broadcast live worldwide through the Guardian website and has since had multiple sold-out regional productions. Beth’s fourth and most recent play, was due to open at the Almeida Theatre, London, in May 2020 in a production directed by Blanche McIntyre starring Anne Marie Duff. The play has been postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis. She is the National Theatre’s Writer in Residence and has screen projects in development with The Forge and Fable Pictures.
Originally from Nottinghamshire, she is now based in London.
Yekaterina Lebedeva is an innovative contemporary artist with a passion for making classical music accessible to all. Her concerts speak in more ways than one. She believes that the fusion of various arts creates a richer experience of living beauty. After her debut in the Purcell Room as part of the SBC Young Musician’s Platform “FRESH”, she has been touring and performing all over the world as a recitalist, chamber musician and with orchestras as well as appearing regularly at the South Bank Centre.
Yekaterina is a Professor of piano at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and the Royal College of Music, as well as teaching advanced class at the City Lit Institute in London. She holds 2 awards from Chopin Competition in Korea for excellence of teaching and from the Jordan Royal Family for helping to develop classical music tradition in the country.
She is a Founder and an Artistic Director of the Musical Odyssey Masterclasses in Nafplio, Greece.
