About this Event
Join us for a family-friendly nocturnal hike under the stars of the Laguna de Santa Rosa to explore mysterious critters of the night. This low-intensity hike is perfect for people of all ages, providing a safe, and exciting night time hiking opportunity in your local community. We will split into two groups, the Owls for a slower paced hike, and the Bats for quicker paced hike. Both groups will hike out to the same location, and no matter which group you join, you will experience the wonders and thrilling excitement of nocturnal exploration.
On this hike, we will have the opportunity to visit bat boxes and watch bats emerge as the sun sets, search for owls living nearby, and use UV flashlights to search for glowing critters. This hike will take us down to Irwin Creek as well as the Laguna’s main channel while making frequent stops along the trail to talk about some of the night time adaptations that make life in the Laguna possible, such echolocation, silent flight, and heightened senses.
Be sure to bring a flashlight and comfortable shoes and come ready to learn, explore, and have fun as we explore the Lagunas nightlife with experienced Naturalists! And don’t forget to bring your Halloween nature costume!
There is no charge for this event, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter sales tax.
