On August 15, Trump plans to meet with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, a man wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, including the abduction of Ukrainian children.
This meeting risks legitimizing an authoritarian leader who has invaded a sovereign nation, committed atrocities, and seeks to redraw borders by force. Trump has even floated the idea of forcing Ukraine to cede its territory to Russia, a dangerous precedent that rewards aggression.
Alaska is no stranger to Russian influence, but our ties to culture and history do not mean we stand silent in the face of war crimes. We gather to say:
