Een van de opkomende vrouwenstemmen in de klassieke Azerbeidzjaanse mugham is Nisbet Sadrayeva.
De mugham-stijl weerspiegelt verschillende periodes in de geschiedenis van Azerbeidzjan en de contacten met Perzen, Armeniërs, Georgiërs en andere Turkse volkeren. Er zijn stilistische overeenkomsten met de Iraakse maqam, de Perzische radif en de Turkse makam te herkennen, allemaal modale muziekstijlen.
Mugham behoort ook tot die modale stijlen: een modus is een toonladder die door zijn specifieke micro-intervallen een bepaalde emotionele toon heeft. Het doel van een mugham-muzikant is om deze modus zo fantasierijk en virtuoos mogelijk te ontwikkelen, in een constante en onophoudelijke stroom.
Nisbet Sadrayeva wordt begeleid door een hecht ensemble met traditionele instrumenten, zoals de langhalsluit tar, de viersnarige viool kamanche, en de cilindertrommel nagara. Omdat mugham niet in een vaste vorm kan worden opgeschreven, worden de verschillende versies doorgegeven door meesters die hun leerlingen trainen in de kunst van interpretatie en improvisatie.
Hoewel Mugham tegenwoordig een klassieke academische kunstvorm is, is het gebaseerd op populaire melodieën van dichters, volksdansritmes en speciale speeltechnieken. Daardoor is mugham nu een van de populairste muziekvormen van het land.
Nisbet Sadrayeva studeerde van 2015 tot en met 2020 aan het Staatsconservatorium van Azerbeidzjan onder leiding van de internationaal gerenommeerde meestermusicus Arif Babayev. Sinds 2017 treedt ze als soliste op bij de staatstelevisie. Ze won verschillende prijzen en toerde al eerder door Europa en Centraal-Azie.
Muslimov Rustam is de tar-speler en studeerde van 2003 tot en met 2017 aan het Nationaal Conservatorium van Azerbeidzjan, waar hij afstudeerde met een Master of Arts. Sinds 2007 is hij tevens werkzaam als docent aldaar.
De kamanche-speler Salahov Elnur Elchinoglu studeerde onder andere aan het Asaf Zeynally Music College, waar ze in 2010 met lof afstudeerde. In 2020 begon ze met haar studie aan het Staatsconservatorium, die ze in 2024 afrondde.
Siyavush Karimov tenslotte volgde van 2013 tot en met 2018 een studie slagwerk aan de afdeling volksmuziek aan de Staatsuniversiteit voor Cultuur en Kunst in Bakoe. Sinds 2022 is hij concertmeester en docent slagwerk aan het Nationaal Conservatorium.

Enchanting classical mugham from Azerbaijan
One of the emerging female voices in classical Azerbaijani mugham is Nisbet Sadrayeva. The mugham style reflects different periods in the history of Azerbaijan and the contacts with Persians, Armenians, Georgians and other Turkic peoples. There are stylistic similarities with the Iraqi maqam, the Persian radif and the Turkish makam, all modal music styles.
Mugham also belongs to these modal styles: a mode is a scale that has a certain emotional tone due to its specific micro-intervals. The goal of a mugham musician is to develop this mode as imaginatively and virtuously as possible, in a constant and unceasing flow.
Nisbet Sadrayeva is accompanied by a close-knit ensemble of traditional instruments, such as the long-necked lute tar, the four-stringed violin kamancheh, and the cylinder drum nagara. Since mugham can not be written down in a fixed form, its various versions are passed down by masters who train their students in the art of interpretation and improvisation.
Although mugham is now a classical academic art form, it is based on popular melodies of poets, folk dance rhythms and special playing techniques. As a result, mugham is now one of the most popular music forms in the country.
Nisbet Sadrayeva studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory from 2015 until 2020 under the guidance of the internationally renowned master musician Arif Babayev. Since 2017, she has performed as a soloist on state television. She has won several awards and has previously toured Europe and Central Asia.
Muslimov Rustam is the tar player and studied at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory from 2003 to 2017, where he graduated with a Master of Arts. Since 2007, he has also been working as a teacher there.
The kamanche player Salahov Elnur Elchinoglu studied at the Asaf Zeynally Music College, where she graduated with honors in 2010. In 2020, she began her studies at the State Conservatory, which she completed in 2024.
Finally, Siyavush Karimov studied percussion at the Department of Folk Music at the State University of Culture and Arts in Baku from 2013 to 2018. Since 2022, he has been concertmaster and percussion teacher at the National Conservatory.
