The Friends of Music's Ninth Annual "Puzzle Mania" jigsaw puzzle competition will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Shepherd University Wellness Center in Shepherdstown. This event is always very popular, and space is limited, so those who want to be part of it are encouraged to get their tickets early. To buy tickets, go to the Friends of Music website at www.friendswv.org. For more information, email [email protected].
This is a fundraiser for the Friends of Music and the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra. And it's always a fun, light-hearted event. It's family-friendly, and children ages 10 and older will be welcomed as team members. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
The jigsaw puzzle competition will be composed of teams of up to four persons each. This year, most teams will start with the same 750-piece puzzle and vie with the other teams to complete their puzzle first. The first-, second-, and third-place teams will be acknowledged and rewarded for their efforts.
There will also be an opportunity for some other teams to compete at a higher level by choosing a 1,000-piece puzzle. These puzzles will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Both the 750- and 1,000-piece puzzles will be of moderate difficulty. No one should be intimidated by the new 750-piece puzzles; the puzzles chosen for it should be similar in difficulty to the 500-piece puzzles offered previously.
Most players will want to recruit their own team or teams from friends, neighbors, or family members. Each team will be limited in size to no more than four people.
The ticket price to participate will be $100 per team, regardless of the size of the puzzle chosen. Organizations and businesses are welcome to sponsor teams if they wish.
The Friends of Music is a Shepherdstown-based non-profit organization that was founded in 1999 to support and promote musical excellence. It supports the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, the only professional chamber orchestra in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and it provides grants and scholarships to support music education in local schools. Full information about the Friends and the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra is available on the Friends website mentioned above.
