[English below] Niitsitapi – Blackfoot, the First PeopleDie Blackfoot Confederacy zählt zu den historisch bedeutendsten indigenen Nationen Nordamerikas. An diesem Abend geben Vertreter*innen aller vier Nationen Einblicke in ihre Geschichte, ihre kulturellen Traditionen und ihr heutiges Leben – erzählt in persönlichen Berichten, begleitet von Musik und gemeinsamen Gesprächen.
Die Blackfoot leben in den Präriegebieten des heutigen Montana (USA) sowie in Alberta und Saskatchewan (Kanada). Ihre Sprache, spirituellen Vorstellungen und kulturellen Praktiken wurden über Generationen weitergegeben – trotz tiefgreifender historischer Umbrüche. Der Abend eröffnet die Gelegenheit, sich mit diesen Erfahrungen auseinanderzusetzen und zugleich Einblicke in aktuelle Projekte kultureller Stärkung und Wissensweitergabe zu erhalten.
Im Mittelpunkt stehen der Austausch und das Gespräch – über Geschichte, Erinnerung und die Bedeutung kultureller Selbstbestimmung heute. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an alle, die sich für indigene Perspektiven, kulturelles Erbe und gesellschaftlichen Dialog interessieren.

Join us for a powerful and immersive cultural evening dedicated to the history, heritage, and living traditions of the Blackfoot Confederacy, one of the most historically significant Indigenous nations of North America. Hosted by the Humboldt Forum, this special presentation offers a rare opportunity to experience the rich cultural identity of the Blackfoot people through storytelling, music, and conversation.
Representatives from all four nations of the Blackfoot Confederacy will be present to share their deeply-rooted history—spanning the vast plains of what is now Montana, Alberta, and Saskatchewan—and reflect on their cultural resilience through centuries of change. Attendees will learn about traditional practices, spiritual beliefs, language and cultural preservation efforts, and the importance of intergenerational knowledge in keeping their heritage alive today.
This event seeks to build bridges of understanding and respect between cultures. We invite you to witness the enduring spirit of the Blackfoot people and explore how the voices of Tribal nations and Indigenous communities are vital to guiding conversations about understanding cultural heritage and identify.
