About this Event
NIHR GOSH BRC’s Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine (TERM) Theme are pleased to announce a workshop focused on challenges and opportunities of TERM research in application to clinical problems.
Workshop outline
The purpose of the workshop is to bring together clinicians and laboratory scientists to strengthen collaborations and foster new relationships to apply developments in TERM technologies for advancement of clinical applications. The workshop is open to all ICH, GOSH, as well as GOSH BRC’s Paediatric Excellence Initiative partner (Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Sheffield Children’s Hospital) staff working in TERM research areas. Full remit of our research is available on the website.
The workshop will consist of two parts:
- A showcase of key technologies used in TERM for congenital malformation modelling and reconstruction of tissues and organs
- vascularization
- next-generation organoids
- tissue imaging and functional assessment
- A “mini-sandpit” session on these three technology areas, followed by the opportunity to develop a proposal for the upcoming NIHR GOSH BRC new projects call with earmarked TERM funding (to be launched in January with closing date in February).
By the close of the workshop, we hope to form new collaborative clinical-academic teams, who have identified a suitable project to develop a proposal. After the workshop, the teams will work together to submit their finalised applications for up to £25,000 (non-pay costs only, but the value is provisional) to the NIHR GOSH BRC New Projects call 2025, funding translational proof-of-concept work within TERM remit. A key aim of these proposals is to generate preliminary data that would lead to a subsequent application for larger external funding (please note that BRC funding cannot fund animal research).
Expression of Interest call for a proposal
In preparation for the workshop, we invite an expression of interest from individuals who would like to propose a clinical challenge (that can benefit from research using TERM technologies) or a research methodology utilising TERM technology.
If you have any questions about the event or would like to discuss your idea, please contact Valerie Karaluka, TERM theme manager ([email protected])
