DXRKKNGHT is a Los Angeles-based post-punk and dark wave artist breaking new ground as the first to fuse Jamaican patois vocals with Gothic instrumentation. Blending elements of hip-hop and shoe-gaze into brooding, atmospheric soundscapes, he bridges worlds that have never intersected, delivering lyrics that feel raw, visceral, and undeniably his own.
Originally from Tampa, Florida, DXRKKNGHT is a rising post-punk artist currently based in Los Angeles. Raised in a Jamaican household as a military dependent, he grew up immersed in diverse cultures and music that would shape his artistic identity. His passion for music began early, watching Michael Jackson and Usher perform on TV and telling his mom, "I want to do that when I grow up." He spent his formative years dancing, studying multiple genres, playing instruments, performing in show choir, and participating in theater.
After relocating from Japan to the U.S. in 2019, DXRKKNGHT initially pursued an "aesthetic rap" before transitioning to his current post-punk sound in 2022, building an international cult-like following. His music is dark yet atmospheric, delivering lyrics that feel deeply personal, as if pulled straight from the listener's own experience. Drawing comparisons to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Christian Death, She Wants Revenge, and Pink Turns Blue, his sound is both genre-rooted and distinctly his own.
