The next edition of Night/Shift — Floating Worlds — summons the spirits of the season and explores classic Japanese print culture and contemporary print culture in Kansas City — on paper, in poetry, as tattoos, and more.
A translation of the Japanese artform ukiyo-e, Floating Worlds beckons you to explore the heroes, haunting tales, forces of nature, and the phenomenon of one artist’s life and legacy in the featured exhibition Hokusai: Waves of Inspiration from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In the photography exhibition Still Performing, staged scenes and photographic fictions pull you into the high drama of the medium’s early years. At the Dia de los Muertos altar, commemorate ancestors and others who have passed to other realms.
