Mending Together: Collective Care, Healing & Justice: A short film screening, panel & lunch
Schedule
Thu Oct 24 2024 at 12:00 pm to 02:30 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center and State Museum | Kansas City, KS
Community safety is an important issue and we must elect candidates who will listen to the community and work to implement policies that support the health and safety of all community members.
We will view a short film and engage in a panel discussion about community safety, healing and justice.
We will be joined by our Jackson County Prosecutors candidates, Melesa Johnson and Tracey Chappell.
They will participate in a panel discussion along with survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence.
Over the last several years, the rates of domestic, intimate partner, sexual and state violence has increased. Missouri ranks 3rd in the nation for those who have experienced domestic or intimate partner violence.
Black and indigenous community members face higher rates of violence than other community members yet they are least likely to receive the support, care and services that they need.
This is a critical conversation that our community must have. We hope that you will join us. Lunch will be provided.
“Hope In Handbags”: Community Service Project
Please join us in the children’s room as we stuff gently used and new handbags and backpacks with essential items. These bags will be used to support community members and their children who are impacted by domestic, intimate partner, sexual and state violence. This space will be open throughout the event. Please stop in and stuff some bags with us.
Local Artist Gallery
We will also showcase a local artist gallery. The art work of several local artists will be on display for viewing. Please come out and support local artists. If you are a local artist and would like to participate, please reach out to Justice Gatson by texting 816-945-0841 or email her at [email protected].
Lunch: We will reach out to those who registered to get your dietary needs/allergies and such.
Would you like to support this event?
We could use donations of gently used or new handbags and backpacks. We could also use donations of travel sized items, toiletries, feminine products, hand sanitizers and other essential items.
