About this Event
A Night of Reflection: Steadfastness Across Generations
The sacred month of Ramadan is a time of renewal, remembrance, and connection. Woven Occasions, in partnership with Treetops Collective, invites you to a multigenerational women’s iftar honoring the tradition of storytelling, breaking bread, and reflection as a vehicle of social change.
The Arabic word, sumūd, is loosely translated as “steadfastness” or “standing fast”. Through discussion drawn from Islamic teachings and the lived experiences of displaced diaspora, we open a conversation on resilience across generations.
Please join us in the sweetness of sisterhood—honor our shared histories, cultivate meaningful bonds across cultures and generations and find out how to stay connected in times of hardship.
What to Expect
Attire: Wear something that’s meaningful to you! Whether it’s a garment passed down or clothing with a shared story, we invite you to connect deeply to your roots.
Activism: Join us for a panel discussion and arts auction featuring the work of our founding team and partners made along the way. We’ll highlight the efforts of local leaders making a difference, while raising money for organizations driving social change.
Engagement: Form new connections during breakout activities such as healing circles, community theme board, and relational bonding.
Salah: For those making maghrib, the dusk prayer, we will break for jumma’ after iftar. Please bring a prayer mat if you plan on joining.
Iftar: Refreshments will be a Sunnah inspired spread to break your fast, followed by a nourishing meal in the company of others.
Sadaqa: Take part in giving for the sake of good cause during the last 10 nights of Ramadan. Fundraising support will include the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), Tethered, Detroit Fine Arts Club, and Woven Occasions as a 501(c)(3).
Who Is Woven Occasions?
Four women shaping their surroundings on community levels from institutional to individual laid the foundation for Woven Occasions, a collective that signifies a redefining moment in the tradition of holding space.
We believe in the celebration and honor of lived experiences, and we take pride in backing the community workers behind those stories. The faces of our neighbors affected by migration displacement, systemic prejudice, and lack of resources—both on our own soil and across nations. These are the faces of parents and grandparents, educators, religious leaders, healers, and so much more, each deserving a moment of reflection honoring their journey as a heritage keeper.
Walk with us on our own journey where conversation, community, and change develop at a table set with intention and timeless beauty.
