What Happens on May 27
1. Public Hearing Begins at 9:00 a.m.
• Opportunity for any ratepayer to speak on the proposed rate increases and discount removal.
2. Written Protests Accepted
• Protests can be handed in at the hearing or mailed/hand-delivered to NID before or during the hearing.
• One protest per parcel (owner or tenant).
3. Protest Count – Immediately After Hearing Closes
• All valid written protests are opened and counted in public view.
• NID staff (an impartial person designated by the District) performs the tabulation right there at the meeting.
• You and every other ratepayer can watch the count live.
• The Board will announce on the spot whether a majority protest was reached (~12,751 protests out of ~25,500 affected accounts).
If a Majority Protest is reached, the proposed 9.5–12.5% annual rate increases cannot be implemented. No board override is allowed.
