I started trying to play a $15 guitar after watching Ricky Nelson and Roy Rogers. Terrible guitar.Killed my fingers. But I kept at it. I joined the Jabberwockies in high school—Dan Charles and
Dave Wallace. We weren’t very good (well, Dave was always good) but we played a few sock
hops. We could play the same song (3 chords) for a long, long time…. G-L-O-R-I-A!!!!
Next came the Royal Society. That was Paul Finley’s name idea for the band—Dan, Dave, Paul,
and me. Lots of fun, lots of “after the game” hops at ILHS. Think Kinks and Stones, Monkeys.
Dan and I spent some time in Southern California after high school. Laguna Beach, San
Clemente area--coffee houses, dinner clubs playing Cat Stevens, John Denver, CSNY, folk
standards, and adding some original tunes.
SYMBIOSIS came next. Rick Robinson joined Dan and me. More originals than covers. SO much
fun singing and playing with those two. Besides being a “house band” at Skipper’s Galley at
Indian Lake, we found gigs in Columbus and around. Joined by Ron Johnson on drums, we were
the house band at Zero Earth in the OSU campus area for quite a while. We also opened for Sha
Na Na, Commander Cody, and Orleans over the years.
After many years of spending time in the islands (British Virgin mostly), I now split my years
between Logan County, Nashville, and Apalachicola. I recorded my CD, “Simple Life”, in 2018.
Joined by some amazing Nashville musicians and singers, and with the boundless talent of Tom
Manche in production, etc., it’s a collection of 12 original songs, many influenced by my time in
the Caribbean.
