When he first began playing at 14 he would adapt two handed repertoire because he knew nothing about one handed repertoire – in fact, there are 3000 works for left hand solo piano. Since then, he has become a passionate advocate for the often overlooked left-hand-alone repertoire. McCarthy has worked with ABRSM (Britain’s main music examination board) to create the first ever one-handed piano syllabus.
