About this Event
Join us as Journeys by CAA Niagara has partnered with Niagara Bound Tours, to offer an immersive, story-rich journey through the Niagara Region’s critical role in Black North American history.
Led by renowned historian, guide, and storyteller Lezlie Harper, a descendant of Freedom Seekers, this tour brings to life the people, places, and events that shaped the Underground Railroad and the development of early Black communities in Canada.
Travel with Lezlie to sites of her ancestors which included landings where Freedom Seekers first felt freedom including that of Josiah Henson (character used in the Uncle Tom’s Cabin book), drive by the church of Harriet Tubman, see areas where Blacks first settled and much more. The history covers from the late 1700s to present day. Lezlie will share personal family stories as well as the history.
Included in this tour is “shoebox lunch” that is the variation of the original shoebox lunch that was used during the Jim Crow era when Blacks were not allowed in restaurants.
