Ngā Waiata Awa ~ River SongsA Taonga Pūoro immersion into the waters of Te Wai Pounamu. Featuring field recordings of 7 treasured rivers, including the Rakaia, Rangitata, Hurunui, Porarari, Okuti & Waikirikiri. All woven live with the ancient vibrations of ngā Taonga Pūoro, honoring Ngā Kaiwaiata Awa the River Singers of Waitaha who once walked all the rivers of the South Island testing and monitoring water quality, and adding to the rivers natural songs.

Host bio:
Gabriel Atawhai Calcott is a DJ, producer, radio host, sound engineer, and Waitaha Taonga Pūoro artist who has been shaping and exploring sound in its many forms for nearly 30 years.
He is a founding member of Waikirikiri Kōpuni Taonga Pūoro collective Kiki Pounamu, with whom he produced three albums between 2000 and 2003.
Gabriel is also a passionate advocate for the protection of our
rivers, lakes, and oceans, and is deeply committed to the principle of kaitiakitanga—guardianship and stewardship—of our waterways.
