About this Event
NGWOS: What's That?
Lunch at the Colorado River District (CRD) with a presentation by USGS hydrologists Cory Williams and Rodney Richards, followed by a short walk to see a local Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) in action at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs. Learn how MCWC, CRD and USGS partnered after the Grizzly Creek Fire on post-fire recovery and critical water quality monitoring for the benefit of all downstream water users.
NGWOS provides high-fidelity, real-time data on water quantity, quality and use to support modern prediction and decision-support systems that are necessary for informing water operations on a daily basis, and decision-making during water emergencies. The headwaters of the Colorado River Basins provides a unique opportunity for implementation of NGWOS in a snowmelt-dominated system in the mountain west.
"NGWOS: What's That?" is part of the 2025 Fire & Water Speaker Series, a fundraiser of the Middle Colorado Watershed Council. The event is presented by the Hotel Colorado and supported by EcoPoint, Bank of Colorado, GRIT, LRE Water, ANB Bank, Wright Water Engineers, Holy Cross Energy, the Colorado River District, Post Independent and the CSU Extension in Rifle.
Advance RSVP required for this free event. Donations welcome.
