NewTechKids Event: AI's Impact on Primary Education (Oct. 19, 2026)

What is AI’s impact on primary education? How can we develop strategies which protect students’ cognitive development while simultaneously preparing them for the role of AI in their daily lives?
NewTechKids invites principals and teachers, school boards, education policy experts, and academics and researchers to participate in an interactive event which will explore these issues on October 19, 2026. Come ask your questions and share your thoughts and experiences!
This event is free of charge and will be conducted in English.
Speakers:
Timothy Cook, Director of the Cognitive Privacy Project and founder of Connected Classroom, will talk about his research related to protecting childhood development and mental autonomy from AI and algorithmic manipulation. He writes about how AI is changing the way children learn to think and the danger of foreclosure. "A child offloading a task [to AI] they've never learned to perform is not making a choice. They are skipping a developmental step that was never developed. The capacity doesn't exist yet. The foreclosure may be permanent—and because they have no independent baseline, they cannot recognize what they're losing."

Deborah Carter, Founder and Managing Director of NewTechKids, will share insights on how NewTechKids teaches AI literacy to primary school students. She will discuss the development of AI literacy curriculum and lessons and talk about lessons learned from inside the classroom. (NewTechKids is currently teaching AI literacy lessons at four Amsterdam primary schools in 2026 as part of a collaboration with the Municipality of Amsterdam.)
