News Satirization Joke Writing "Weekend Update"-Style Class w/ Brian Kahn
About this Event
This course focuses on writing comedy for satirical news segments in the style of “Weekend Update.” Students write jokes, headlines, and short desk commentary. Designed specifically for non-professional writers, this class is informative, supportive, and hands-on. The class blends instruction, viewing and analysis of professional examples, writing time, collaboration, performance, and studio production. Students will experience how comedy moves from idea → page → performance → camera, and will leave each course with written material and recorded video content suitable for personal portfolios. The instructor or a local comedian/actor performs the material as a news anchor on camera. All filming will take place at TC Media studios, offering students exposure to studio workflows in an accessible, low-pressure environment.
