Newroz-Spring Festival

On April 25, 2025 we will celebrate Newruz, the vibrant spring festival that marks the Kurdish New Year at PIONEER SQUARE! Come learn about the richness of Nomadic traditions, feel a sense of belonging, watch dance performances, listen to live music, taste samples of authentic food and dance with your community!

Newroz, a festival deeply rooted in Kurdish heritage, symbolizes renewal, unity, & the triumph of light over darkness. It’s celebrated across the diaspora; by over 13 cultures. It’s especially important as the Kurds have been disallowed to celebrate Newroz and the continuation of celebrating is an act of joy, freedom, cultural awareness and resilience. We will highlight how the Kurds of Anatolia celebrate while adding elements from Persian and Afghan cultures.
