About this Event
The program consists of Beethoven’s delightful Piano Trio in Bb Major, Op. 11. The last movement is a set of variations based upon a popular tune of the day with the first line, “Before I go to work, I must have something to eat!” This is followed by Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla’s soulful “Oblivion,” a song about love and sadness, full of harmonic sophistication, whispered sadness, and elegant notes. After the intermission, the trio will play Brahms’ majestic Piano Trio in B Major, Opus 8, which is full of grand melodies combined with warm lyricism and is widely regarded as an early masterwork.
Pianist Zhu Wang was awarded First Prize in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the most prestigious award a young classical artist can receive. Zhu’s debut at Carnegie Hall made The New York Times’ "Best of Classical Music 2021" list. Violinist Valerie Kim, praised for her "comprehensive sense of style and color," made her concerto debut with the San Diego Symphony. She soon became a protégé of Itzhak Perlman in New York City. Cellist Eliana Razzino Yang has performed solo recitals in London, Paris, Rome, Brussels, Frankfurt, New York, Helsinki, and Boston, as well as concertos with orchestras in Italy, the US, and England. She is completing her master's degree with Zvi Plesser at Julliard.
Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door, and free to students and EBT cardholders. There will be an intermission.
