Newborn Feeding Foundations: What Parents Should Know About Bottle Feeding
About this Event
Bottle feeding sounds simple—until you're standing in the bottle aisle wondering which of forty options is "right," And before you even get to the bottles, there's the formula aisle: dozens of brands and types, each promising it's the one your baby needs—and no one there to tell you what actually matters.
Whether you're exclusively bottle feeding, pumping, combo feeding, or just want to be ready, there's real technique and real guidance here that makes a difference.
We'll spend the first half on choosing the right formula—and the second half on bottle feeding technique—so you leave confident on both.
You'll learn from both sides of the feeding picture. I'm Dr. Irissa Rosario MD, a board-certified pediatrician with fifteen years of experience caring for newborns and their families. I'm joined by Giovana Rorato, IBCLC and owner of Lactation Station, who brings deep, hands-on expertise in the mechanics and day-to-day reality of feeding. Together we cover both the medical and the lactation side, in one place.
Part one — Choosing the right formula:
- The different types of formula and what actually sets them apart
- How to read a label and cut through the marketing claims
- Cow's-milk-based, specialized, and "gentle" formulas—who they're for and who they're not
- Signs your baby may need something different, and when that's a conversation with your pediatrician
Part two — Bottle feeding with confidence:
- How to choose bottles and nipples, and what flow rate really means
- Paced bottle feeding and why it protects your baby
- Reading hunger and fullness cues, positioning, and keeping feeds calm
- How much and how often, and avoiding overfeeding
- Safe preparation and storage of formula and expressed milk
- Combo feeding, the truth about "nipple confusion," and what to do when baby refuses the bottle
This is a hands-on class. You'll compare real formula options side by side, see and handle different bottles and nipples, and practice paced feeding technique—so you leave knowing what fits your baby and your life, not just what's marketed loudest.
You'll leave with a clear, confident approach to choosing formula and feeding your baby—plus plenty of space for your questions. Snacks and tea will be provided, so come settle in and stay a while.
Whether you're expecting, returning to work, or already navigating feeding, you're welcome here.
