About this Event

About the event

Chart a course through local history with an engaging talk on the New Zealand Flying School, established at Kohimarama in 1915 by the pioneering Walsh brothers. Discover how this remarkable school helped shape New Zealand aviation and trained many of the pilots who went on to serve during the First World War.

Our guest speaker will explore the school's history, its lasting legacy, and the stories of the people who learned to fly on the waters of the Waitematā Harbour.

Attendees are warmly invited to bring along their own war memorabilia, including photographs, medals, badges, letters, uniforms, or other military artefacts, to share with the group or receive commentary and historical insights from the speaker.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, researching your family history, or simply curious about Auckland's aviation heritage, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about an important chapter in New Zealand's past.

This event is free and open to everyone. Bookings are recommended as places are limited.
