PROJECT DEVELOPMENT - BLOOD BE SWEET

BLOOD BE SWEET is a poetic ritual drama that begins in an otherworldly realm, where three spirits breathe life into a young girl. But when Death comes for her too soon, her family must confront what it truly means to offer oneself in the name of love. The play is a conversation between ancestors and the living, between duty and defiance, between sacrifice and survival.

ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE

Ngozi Anyanwu is a multi hyphenated storyteller coming fresh her professional directing debut with THE MONSTERS at Two River Theater in conjunction with Manhattan Theatre Club. She’ll also be starring in the West Coast Premiere of THE MONSTERS at Berkley Rep in conjunction with LaJolla Playhouse. Her previous plays include LEROY and LUCY at Steppenwolfe Theater, LAST OF THE LOVE LETTERS at the Atlantic Theater Company, GOOD GRIEF and THE HOMECOMING QUEEN at the Atlantic Theatre. She attended Point Park University (BA) and received her MFA in Acting from University of California, San Diego.

Kamilah Forbes is an award-winning director and producer, and the Executive Producer for the World Famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. In her diverse body of work, Forbes is noted for having a strong commitment to the development of creative works by, for, and about the Hip-Hop Generation. Forbes has received numerous accolades for her work in the arts, including a Josephine Abady Award, AUDELCO Award nomination, NAACP Image Award, numerous Helen Hayes Award nominations, DC Commission Distinguished Artist Award, Tony Award, and The Mayor’s Arts Award for Emerging Theatre Artist.
