A screening of The World of Us as part of the New Voice section at the inaugural LA Korean Film Festival.

Winner of the 2016 Zlín Golden Slipper, Yoon Ga-eun’s acclaimed debut feature explores the fragile friendships, social hierarchies and emotional complexities of childhood through the eyes of two young girls.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Yoon Ga-eun.

SYNOPSIS

Ten-year-old Sun, an outcast at school, becomes best friends with Jia, a newcomer to the neighborhood. But when the new semester begins, Jia becomes aware of Sun’s place within the class hierarchy and starts to pull away, testing the fragile bond between them.

YOON GA-EUN is an acclaimed filmmaker celebrated for precise, empathetic portraits of childhood and adolescence. The World of Us premiered in the Berlin International Film Festival’s Generation section and earned her Best New Director at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Best Screenplay at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Her films also include The House of Us and The World of Love.
